FORSYTHE: ‘I WILL SUPPORT NEW HAMPSHIRE’S OPPOSITION TO HEALTH CARE MANDATES’
District 4 State Senate candidate says Congress cannot force people to buy health care

LACONIA, N.H.—Following the passage of President Obama’s signature health care law on Tuesday, conservative Republican Jim Forsythe, a candidate for the fourth district State Senate seat, said he will work to pass a bill that protects New Hampshire citizens from subjection to the law’s unconstitutional mandates.

“Congress does not have the authority to force Americans to buy health insurance, but the state of New Hampshire does have the authority under the 10th Amendment to reject this unconstitutional federal law,” Forsythe said. “State Senate Republicans are doing a great job standing up for New Hampshire citizens with their effort to prohibit the federal government’s health insurance mandates, but they might need help from similar-minded Senators like me in the next legislative session to ensure these protections become state law.”

Republican State Senators led by Senate Minority Leader Peter Bragdon of Amherst and bill sponsor Sen. Jeb Bradley of Wolfeboro are supporting an amendment to a pending state health care bill that provides that New Hampshire residents “shall not be required to obtain, or be assessed a fee or fine for failure to obtain, health insurance coverage.” While Jim Forsythe as a candidate is supporting these efforts of the current Senate Republicans, it is likely that the Democrats in the majority, including Sen. Kathy Sgambati of Senate District 4, will turn a blind eye to the desires of N.H. citizens to be free from such unconstitutional mandates and the resulting increased financial burden created by this expansion of government involvement in health care.

The Democrats in the N.H. Senate have consistently supported expanding the role of government over the last four years including increasing the State budget over 25%, increasing taxes in such job crushing ways as creating the LLC tax, and increasing the meals and rooms tax and business profits tax.  They are also following the lead of those in D.C. by expanding government involvement in health care through Senate Bill 505, sponsored by Sen. Maggie Hassan of Exeter, to create a cost-control commission for the hospitals.

“New Hampshire citizens know best how to handle their own health insurance decisions; they do not need the federal government forcing their hand,” Forsythe said. “Once elected to the state Senate, I will work with fellow Senate Republicans and support a bill for New Hampshire.  Sen Sgambati, as a former high level HHS bureaucrat, knew better than almost any Senator the budget havoc Obamacare would bring to NH - yet she was silent.”
