Jim Forsythe of Laconia, a GOP candidate for the District 4 senate seat, said the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative is driving up electricity costs for business. He also expressed concern about the bevy of new taxes levied on business, including the local option rooms and meals tax, the LLC tax and the campground tax that has since been repealed.

On Wednesday evening, the Jim Forsythe for State Senate campaign opened their office at 23 Canal Street in downtown Laconia. In front of a very enthusiastic crowd of around 40, Senate Minority leader Peter Bragdon spoke about the importance of winning Senate District 4 in order to regain a Republican majority that would lower spending and taxes.

After reading state Sen. Kathleen Sgambati’s opinion piece on health insurance reform, the first question I’d ask is: “Has the senator actually read the massive federal health care overhaul legislation?” The picture of a utopian world without suffering that she paints in her column is just as erroneous as her apparent understanding of the law that just passed.
